Current configuration uses a 3900x with 32GB DDR4-3000-C16 and an EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra. I played GTAV at 3440x1440 and achieved about 10% performance boosts. The Corsair kit features Hynix chips, so it won’t work for overclocking.
If upgrading RAM from 3000 to 3200 gave a 10% gain, estimating the next jump to 3200→3600 is tricky.
Looking at your other options:
- From 3600 to 4000 with a 5900x would likely offer more gains, though at a higher cost.

Ryzen definitely requires a 3200 or higher rating. I don’t think this shifts much with the Ryzen 5000. I’d recommend going for a 3600 speed.
It's not only about memory latency; higher frequency also causes FCLK and bandwidth to rise, making faster clocks advantageous even with the same memory delay. Most 5000 CPUs can reach about 4000MHz (especially Ryzen 9s with superior silicon), but $300 seems too expensive. Any more affordable option? Also, consider 2x16GB RAM for a better chance of XMP support.
Thanks for the input. I ended up purchasing two 2x16GB Crucial ballistix 3600-C16 modules priced at $170 each. Probably not too strict on specs since many components are currently unavailable. I believe this will allow me to fully utilize my existing build, and once I upgrade to a 5900X it won’t be a problem. Noting that my current 3000-16 setup likely uses micron chips, so if I really needed to, I could slightly adjust the timings and push 3800MHz from this RAM.
