I'm seeking a CPU/motherboard that matches my current setup in performance. Previously considered the 12600k, but it was too costly and I wanted to keep my cooler. Now evaluating the 5600x and Asus ROG SRTIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI). I understand the Hyper 212 isn't ideal for the 5600x, but I already own it and just need decent operation. The board meets my requirements, and I'm okay with the price, though I'd consider a more affordable alternative if it exists. Thanks.

Switching the entire setup to a similar or lower model might be better. Consider an older i9 9900K for a comparable experience.

Required to return or replace the existing motherboard due to damage that made it unsuitable. Searched for used Z390 boards locally but found nothing available. Avoided purchasing from eBay unless I could verify it would function properly, as visual confirmation is essential. Believed a 5600X would perform similarly to my current 9700K.

The 12400(F) costs about $30-50 less than the 5600X, and motherboard prices are quite similar. You can also get an iGPU with the 12400 for troubleshooting needs. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vZ9tgb Regarding the cooler, you have options: use the original one or reach out to Cooler Master who can provide a free upgrade kit for LGA 1700.

You can upgrade by selling your current CPU and installing a 5700X and B550 board from Gigabyte or Asus.

I'm also uncertain about running a Hyper 212 on a 5600X unless you have an adequately ventilated enclosure.

I was considering this option again. It's not about improving performance, just keeping it the same. I own a NZXT H500, so airflow isn't a priority. I don't require it to be exceptional—just reliable. Upgrades can be done later. I won't push it intensely often either; it's mainly for creative tasks.

It's best to stick with more cores unless the older CPU is significantly newer and offers much better performance. If you can, upgrade instead of downgrading. A 5700X or 5800X will provide a solid boost.
