Hello, I recently made some changes to my old computer: upgraded the CPU from i3-4330 to i5-4440, replaced the GPU with RX580 4GB, and installed a new PSU with 8GB RAM (1 + 2) and a 240GB SSD plus a 1TB HDD. I also added more RAM. Despite these updates, the games feel much slower than before. For example, Overwatch ran at around 30 FPS with the old CPU, but now I notice significant drops even with the new processor. After switching the GPU to RX580 and the PSU to AZZA 550W, I tested with Afterburner and saw cores reaching full capacity while the GPU showed random spikes even when not heavily used. It seems like something might still be limiting performance. Right now the frame rates are terrible and overall speed is down compared to before. I’m considering reverting to the i3 for testing, and thinking about upgrading the CPU, adding more RAM, or a better GPU in the future. But because of budget constraints, I’m waiting a while. Did you perform a CMOS reset after installing the new CPU? If not, try again. If you did reset it, have you updated the BIOS? The board hasn’t received a new BIOS update in about two years, though you might still be using an older version. https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H...#down-bios
If Overwatch is your main focus, it’s possible that automatic graphics options shifted because of the hardware upgrade, leading to reduced performance. Based on what I’ve seen, I can say that OW can drop below 60 frames per second on an i5-4440 if you tweak the settings. Still, the CPU will likely be working hard just to run the game alone.
GPU temperature is within normal range below 60°C. I’ll check the CPU next. I’m going to reset the CMOS. For the BIOS, I just confirmed it supports the 4th generation. Currently I’m using version 6.5, and I’ll also attempt an update to the newest release. Overwatch seems to be the most impacted game; previously I lowered everything to low and still experienced FPS drops to 12 or less. I also played Valorant before with stable around 110FPS, but now drops to as low as 30 sometimes. Before the changes those fluctuations never occurred.
