After fifteen years with Intel, I’m ready to switch to a Ryzen 7 3700X. This is my current configuration. When I turn on PBO and CBP Clock Speed max reaches 4.3GHz at 1.475V. My idle temps sit between 50-60°C. Under stress, I hit over 85°C with AIDA64. In an AC room it’s 45-55°C/82°C during stress. I’ve fixed the voltage to 1.275V and clock speed to 4.0GHz. At idle I’m around 45-55°C, and max temps are now 80°C with AIDA64. In an AC room it’s 37-45°C/75°C during stress. Is this typical? Or am I making a mistake? Yes, I took off the plastic base on the cooler. I also applied sufficient thermal paste. Ambient temps are about 28-30°C indoors, and 22°C in an AC room. The case specs are: front 200mm x2, top 200mm x1, rear 120mm x1, cooling tower fan Kaze Flex 120mm x2.

It looks like the voltage might be too high at certain points. Are you experiencing any unusual behavior or readings?

The voltage looks suitable for a 3700X running at 4.3, though it isn’t the top performance chip available. They tested 4.4 at that setting, but the best results come from properly cooling the processor and enabling precision boost 2. Achieving consistent high performance isn’t possible through overclocking multipliers alone.

Welcome to the darker side. Free pretzels are on your left. Second, it's a bit higher than mine—roughly 1-2c difference, likely due to our varying CPU coolers and thermal paste.

Thanks for the update. I was concerned it might be too high. I hadn’t seen anything this strong on an Intel chip before. It surprised me when I noticed it. What thermal paste are you using right now? Also, thanks for the welcome. I’m just nervous about the idle temperatures rising so much. Even my old i5 3570k running at 4.2GHz (previously 4.5GHz) with a Hyper-212 would have been fine, especially at idle.

I run Arctic Silver and a Hyper 212 Evo. During stress tests I reach around 78°C. In regular use, like gaming and streaming, I usually hit about 75 for short bursts under heavy demand.

I'm adjusting the settings to lower the temperature and improve performance. I haven't played for over 15 minutes since building it yesterday. I'm looking for ways to optimize it. I have a tube of Arctic Silver 5, though it's been around for a while. Do you think it's still good quality? I plan to test it for a few more days and likely replace it then. Are you also using a PBT? What's your usual room temperature?
