Hello everyone, I just received my new Razer Blade 15 and am considering adding my 2TB 970 Evo drive, which already has W10 installed. I understand that changing too many components at once might prevent Windows from booting because of driver issues. If the new setup doesn’t work, could running my old W10 DVD to repair help? Also, is it possible to enter repair mode even if I can’t? Thanks, Vizz.

Confirm the BIOS recognizes the OS installation type—Legacy or EFI. Adjust the setting and it should start up correctly. If not, a Windows reinstall might be necessary.

When switching just an SSD or HDD, it usually works fine if your system allows hot-swapping. Laptops may have issues with this. The boot drive cannot be hot-swapped.

I'm exchanging the boot drive from my old PC to my laptop. I plan to connect an M.2 to USB and move all the files I want onto the new one before swapping if necessary. This should make the process easier. Thanks for the advice—it’ll be useful when I switch them. I noticed it uses Torx screws, and I only have standard flat and Philips head drivers, so the swap might need to wait until I get an iFixIt Kit.

This brief covers key terms: hot-swapping refers to swapping hardware or components during operation, and it’s important to understand these concepts clearly.

The optimal approach is to attempt first, then seek further help. Windows 10 should start without issues. If problems arise, proceed with caution but remain confident everything will function (not just activation). Trying it should not cause any damage or failure. Hotswap involves swapping drives while the system is active, not merely replacing them. It works well and I rely on it regularly. The main advantage is that a new drive won't interfere with existing letters since they're already set up.
