Hi there,
I had an old laptop that just stopped working and I thought it wasn’t worth fixing. I managed to reinstall Windows and it was all good. When I checked CPU-z, I saw it has a Celeron B830 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It’s a Lenovo E49 (3464) and it’s a solid machine. The only issue is that it doesn’t work with the current components, especially the 2 GB DDR3 RAM—it only has one slot. I looked up compatible processors online and found a list, but I’m wondering if swapping it with an i7 would be a good upgrade option without spending much. Could you confirm if those processors fit?
Link for compatible processors: http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket G2 (rPGA988B).html
Cheers!

The main issue is that you probably won't be able to modify the CPU, as it's a cheap part and usually soldered in place.

The current CPU (Intel Celeron B830) is not soldered onto — it uses a PGA design. CPUs with soldering are BGA (Ball Grid Array). For more details, see the Intel page: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...ce...0-ghz.html. When uncertain, it's wise to do some research before trying to assist.

Celeron b830 is a SandyBridge mobile CPU. Most other SandyBridge mobile CPUs in the PGA socket should work with it, provided you consider their TDP. The Celeron b830 has a 35W TDP, so you shouldn't upgrade to a CPU with more than 35W or install a cooling system that can't handle it.

Thanks to everyone, I'll continue researching and see if the bios support additional processors. I'll also look into getting a good processor and increasing the RAM.
Cheers
