I intend to swap out my existing motherboard and CPU for new components. Will I need a fresh Windows setup or can I retain my current system? If I reinstall Windows, should I perform a clean drive wipe? What should I do with the existing drive that currently hosts Windows?

You might want to check if it starts, often I just set up a fresh Windows installation. Don’t need to wipe other partitions—just back up any important files on the C drive. You can continue working with the existing drive.

It's recommended to perform a fresh installation for a cleaner setup. When doing so, save all your files to another location before proceeding, launch the Windows installer, prepare the target drive, and then install. A full data wipe isn't necessary unless you plan to sell or recycle the device.

You can save the Windows copy to your C drive by copying it to that location manually or using a script to automate the process.
