Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a game I played long ago. Now I’m facing several issues that make it hard to use. When the game starts, nothing happens when I click. Before then, changing the resolution caused crashes. Also, my friend is playing it too and has settings I don’t have or can’t access. He only lets me choose 4X AA or disables it completely, even though more options are listed. Soft Shadows appear but I can’t interact with them.

The only solution is to run a virtual machine or set up Win XP in dual boot (or move it to another drive).

It seems like you're thinking Windows 7, but it might be a different version. Are you sure?

Consider testing it in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP1. I've experienced similar problems, as it wasn't designed to run on current hardware or software.

I'm not sure what you're referring to by "broken." Are you talking about a Windows 8.1 installation? I'll check it for you.

Click the game file, open its properties, and choose compatibility settings. Next, pick run in compatibility mode, then in the dropdown list select "Windows XP SP1".
