Internet performance has been inconsistent lately, with occasional drops and device issues. I’m checking if a phone jack could provide a more stable connection.

Good means less than 50mb/s for each way of communication. (DSL connects using a phone modem to reach the internet.)

We’re performing adequately, but stability isn’t what we need. We’re aiming for a steady 100 Mb/s with a reliable link throughout the house. The older sibling experiences frequent interruptions and lag because he’s farther from the modem and router.

I don’t have any Ethernet cable available myself, but it’s near your current setup.

You're asking if the setup you have meets the requirements for high-speed data transfer. The cat5 standard supports up to 100Mb/s over twisted pair cables, which matches the capabilities of a phone jack. That seems to be your goal.

Your issue isn't with the modem. Swapping it won't fix your wireless connection problems. You should either lay Ethernet cables or install additional wireless access points near areas like your sibling's room.

It seems the connection might be failing due to either the service provider's outage or a problem with your Wi-Fi link to the router or gateway.

If your devices are linking to the modem through Wi-Fi, the main problem is likely your Wi-Fi router (or the modem itself). Based on what I understand of your setup, you probably use an ADSL modem from your internet service provider that already includes Wi-Fi. Over time, these units can lose performance, especially if they're not updated regularly. The simplest fix would be to replace them with a dedicated Wi-Fi router connected directly to the modem using a standard Ethernet cable. It’s tough to find a ready-made modem today, so buying a Wi-Fi router is often more practical. This setup will give you a stronger signal and better reliability. ISP equipment tends to be of lower quality.
