When both drives were connected, Windows installed a boot file on each. Taking away one drive will trigger this process again. Many tutorials suggest fixing it, but the repair installation method is the only one that helped me.

Explore all alternatives first. If those don’t work, proceed with repair installation. If unsuccessful, perform a new installation and preserve the original files (this is what I did after three hours of troubleshooting).
