Are you just playing around? I’d recommend Intel 10600k or 10700 instead of the 10700k—it’s about $120 more than both and offers similar performance. The 3800x isn’t a good deal unless it’s only $10 more than the 3700x; they’re essentially the same chip, though one might be slightly better optimized if you plan to upgrade.

AMD offers a more robust overall setup. The Intel line doesn't include PCIe Gen 4, which might limit performance.

You can't really tell from here. Even Nvidia said Gen 3 shouldn't be an issue, and a 3080 won't overload the Gen 3 X16 bandwidth. The best way to confirm is to wait for Ampere and see how it performs. For gaming, the 10600k should handle it fine and doesn't need more power than games require. It works well without scaling problems. But if you're between those options and using a gaming rig, go with the 10700k.
