Lately I upgraded my PC with a 7800X3D, a B650E Taichi Lite, and a 6700XT paired with a 1000W Seasonic Gold rated PSU. In the BIOS I found PBO and selected both auto and enabled options in the dropdown menu. Since I plan to turn on PBO later, I’m unsure which setting I should pick—enabled or auto—and whether it’s needed for gaming at 1080P.

PBO enabled defaults as the standard setting. When PBO TJmax is at 85°C, it caps the temperature at that value. Using a curve optimizer with voltage offset can lower the temperature range but may affect stability—experiment to find what suits you best. If you prefer simplicity, just enable PBO.

Begin fresh using the "AUTO" option and observe its performance. Everything seems to function correctly—just proceed without further adjustments. For my setup, especially with the new Asus X670E-E Gaming Wifi, simply keeping things on "AUTO" works best. This is especially helpful when you lack experience or understanding of the components involved. Good luck and stay safe.

What does "auto" mean in this context, especially since I don't have details about your specific motherboard?

That's configured with the standard maximum temperatures by default.

choose a relaxed OC setup with PBO active or PBO plus -20co. manually reset the TJMax to the appropriate stock value—like 89°C. There’s little benefit in pushing it down further for a peak temperature since your board can handle it, though you’ll need some tuning via the curve optimizer, either per core or all at once. The first option is slower but more stable. Also, consider lowering the RAM speed to around 5800MHz if it helps reduce VOSC.
