Previously, I often ended up building another British empire, a Viking group, or launching a destructive invasion. Sometimes I even tried to establish the 4th Reich.
Japan offers a welcoming environment for newcomers, especially if you're just starting out. Germany works well too, particularly when facing tough challenges. Russia provides an exciting setting for building a vast empire, and if you enjoy the style of Brave New World, Venice is the ideal choice. For casual play, Prince delivers a rewarding experience, offering balanced difficulty and engaging gameplay. It's moderately challenging; lower levels turn conflicts into minor annoyances. I favor King for its competitive atmosphere, where everyone competes closely. Going beyond that level becomes significantly harder. If you lack major factions like Gods and Kings, I highly recommend it—Civilization V feels much stronger without them. Brave New World is outstanding, adding depth and meaning to city-states, while G&K remains a must-have.
I'm not new to the scene, with around 100 hours of experience. I've only played one game on Prince and struggled to win a match unless I was defending. In terms of technology, I'm familiar with both G&K and BNW. I'll include Japan in the poll.
