Here are some other options you might consider.
I only need to create text records and basic spreadsheets, so I don’t want to purchase or subscribe to Microsoft Office due to budget constraints.
OpenOffice and LibreOffice can experience frequent crashes that close the program and erase unsaved work.
Google and One Drive depend on an internet connection, and switching files can be slow.
Is there a simpler yet more reliable and trustworthy alternative?

this is an option. i use it on my tablet but not really done much more than basic editing and viewing with it.
worth a shot anyway for free.
[OFFICIAL] WPS Office-Free Office Download for PC & Mobile, Alternative to MS Office
WPS Office is a free and all-in-one Office suite, highly compatible with MS Office Word, Excel, and PPT. Can be downloaded online and free trial for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Linux.
www.wps.com
you can use MS office for free as well but it is like google docs as it is browser based and needs internet to access it. otherwise it works well. make a ms account which you likely already have, sign in at office.com and it's ready to go.

If the software crashes, it means your machine has the problem. Fix it and LibreOffice will function properly

They usually maintain a record to identify issues. Additionally, when it fails, it should show an alert message.

I've been using Only Office for a while now. It functions quite similarly to a Microsoft Office version with a lighter setup.
