I purchased the Asus Prime B550 Plus to upgrade my Asrock B450m HDV R4.0. Everything functioned normally on the original board. After moving my 5800x, 3080ti and 2x16GB RAM, the system wouldn’t start. I suspected a BIOS issue, so I replaced the CPU with a 3900x and it booted correctly this time. I updated the BIOS to version 3002, then rebooted and confirmed the update displayed properly. I switched back to the 5800x but it failed to power on, only cycling through RAM, CPU, and GPU LEDs. I reset the BIOS multiple times, tried different RAM modules, and even swapped the GPU for an Nvidia 710, but no improvement. Support staff advised using QVL RAM, but I’m still unsure what’s causing the problem.

What shade are they? Check your GPU by reseating it and inspecting the pins on the back of the 5800X for any bends. Also, try reverting to an older BIOS version and see if it resolves the issue.

Hi, thanks for the update. I revisited the 2806 and 1804 bios versions—both confirm compatibility with 5800x. I also checked the latest ones again. I examined the back of the CPU and noticed some dust, cleaned it up. The socket looked good too. The LEDs change colors: orange for drama, red for GPU, white for CPU. No green for boot errors. I swapped the GPU in and out a few times between the 3080ti and my 710, but it didn’t affect booting. When I swapped back to the 3900x CPU, it started working immediately. Placing the CPU in my Asrock b450 board worked fine too. It’s quite puzzling!

Asus provides a QVL for each CPU generation in their memory. I observed that certain RAM specifications are labeled as acceptable for Zen 2 but not for Zen 3—it seems a bit confusing. That was just my note.

I believed since the memory controller was located in the CPU and it functioned with my B450, it should also work with the B550. The support team at Asus couldn't resolve the issue on the QVL, and it seems memory sensitivity is a concern for the B550 as well.
