Support for Windows 10 assistance available.
I’m setting up my first PC tomorrow and only need Windows on a flash drive right now. I installed the media creation tool from Windows, inserted the drive, and it’s showing “Downloading Windows 10.” I’m not sure if I’ll still need a product key from Reddit or if I can use the Windows 10 already on my laptop and transfer it to my PC. Thanks for your help!
Only what you require is provided for installing the OS—no key or license needed, meaning you get a 30-day trial of Windows 10. The media creation utility is mainly for those wanting to test their OS in Previewer builds. You’ll need to buy a license if you want it officially. Licenses can be obtained from Microsoft or Amazon. I don’t personally suggest buying from Reddit, Kinguin, or any other unofficial source.
Once Windows 10 completes the download, opening the desktop lets you use your product key either when you're already there or when prompted during installation. You may choose to enter it yourself, or activate it using a different key if needed. Activation is also possible via another product key.
I also need to purchase a valid product key, but I’m struggling to pay for it. I thought about buying something genuine on Amazon, though I’m not able to afford it right now.
Numerous factors come into play, but most often you're likely to end up with an illegitimate key. That's why I referred to the Grey market term.
If I had the money, I’d definitely try the Reddit key. I’m hoping it will work; after installing my PC and connecting the flash drive, I just need to enter the product key and everything should be fine.
They usually cost between 20 and 30 dollars, but big sellers like Amazon may list them from 80 to 120 dollars. Kinguin offers lower product keys, though they don’t include a warranty—so issues with Windows would require you to handle them yourself. They do provide buyer protection, but it typically adds about 7.50 dollars.
No recommendation for either site, as they differ significantly in functionality and key usage.
