I purchased the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard around a year and a half ago. On the official MSI site, the specs mentioned it supports up to 64GB of RAM. However, during my search, I discovered it actually supports 128GB. I’m curious—could it be that using the newest CPU and updated BIOS allows it to support 128GB, while older CPUs and BIOS versions limit it to 64GB? Zen and Zen 1 CPUs are limited to 64 gigabytes of RAM, whereas Zen 2 and Zen 3 can handle up to 128 gigabytes. This means replacing a Zen + CPU with a Zen 2 or Zen 3 would allow you to use 128 gigabytes if you keep the Tomahawk maximum. The initial 64-gigabyte limit for B450 boards comes from the fact that they were first released with Zen +, which supported only 64 gigabytes of RAM.
