Support Choosing a Refurbished 10GB NIC with Cable
I'm researching options for two 10G NICs to boost my server and main rig performance. I need reliable products for faster file transfers and am considering used items on eBay. The first card is a Mellanox model, model 468349-001, which I’m leaning toward for its reputation despite higher cost. The second is an HP 487970-001, a 7-meter cable, though I’m unsure if that’s sufficient. I’m trying to balance quality and budget.
the entrex adapters perform well compared to some older models i used before. while windows 10 hasn't always been my favorite, i've been using connect x3s for a year without any problems. the sfp setup has been smooth thanks to built-in logic in the cables and cross-band support, though longer runs can be tricky and may cause the adapter to shut down. longer cables tend to be more expensive and have length restrictions. if you're connecting just two devices, consider using an aquatia 10g nic or a nic with a rj45 connector as an output. cat6 up to 100 meters works fine without issues, and many upcoming switches or routers will likely include 10g rj45 ports. this could save money in the long run and offer more flexibility.
