Support cannot adjust the RAM speed.
Hello, welcome to the forum! I’m not very familiar with where to post exactly, but I really need some guidance. I bought new RAM and upgraded from 16GB to 32GB. However, I noticed my new RAM isn’t performing as fast as before. My old RAM was running at its maximum speed of 4800MHz, while the new one is only 5800MHz at 4000MHz. When I checked in the BIOS, there were no settings or changes made. It seems my PC (a prebuilt Lenovo Legion T5 Gaming Tower) has no RAM configuration options and I can’t adjust them. I’ve searched online but didn’t find any relevant information. Can you help me understand what’s happening?
They misunderstood... The Corsair package you purchased meets a JEDEC standard of 4000, but that doesn’t limit you from using RAM with higher JEDEC ratings.
The JEDEC speed refers to a standardized timing profile for RAM, generally offering flexibility across various system setups. XMP speed is the actual performance achieved when the XMP feature is activated, acting like an auto-overclocking setting. If a RAM claims 5600MT/s on XMP, it only reaches that speed when the XMP option is enabled in the BIOS. Without XMP support, it operates at the JEDEC speed it was built for. Most modules sold today are designed for 4800MT/s under JEDEC standards. The earlier claim might be outdated, as some original products could have run slower.
Looking for alternatives since XMP support isn't available in BIOS?
