I'm working with a 1600 MHz processor and four 2 GB RAM modules from G.Skill Fallout 4. Right now, my GPU is using around 80% of it, CPU about 35-40%, and all RAM is being utilized at roughly 7050 MB. To improve FPS, should I add more of the same 2x4GB sticks or opt for faster RAM? I’m weighing between a 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz option or an 8 GB faster RAM choice. Also, can I mix different speeds in my setup? Thanks for your advice and suggestions!

Speeds can be combined, yet each will operate at its minimum rate. CAS settings may vary per channel but will align with the channel’s lowest value. I’d receive 4x4GB at 1866MHz solely if a Z-chipset is present.

It won’t necessarily boost FPS by increasing RAM alone. The improvement would be more about a smoother gameplay and eliminating stutter caused by memory limits. Focus on storage capacity rather than speed when upgrading.

Checking the trade-offs between storage speeds and capacity makes sense. Higher speeds like 1600 MHz can help with large textures, but you're asking if that's worth it compared to lower speeds. Also, comparing different capacities—like 16 GB vs 12 GB or 8 GB at higher frequencies—depends on your specific needs.

Capacity provides benefits only up to your requirements. If your system runs on 8GB or 16GB, additional space won't be useful. Faster RAM speeds up the CPU's processing by allowing quicker calculations. Certain games may display this as higher refresh rates, while others show a reduction in the range between minimum and average Hz.

Higher RAM speeds will improve Fallout 4 performance due to its many draw calls, potentially increasing efficiency by up to 15%.

16gigs also works; 1600 CL9 looks preferable to 2400 CL12.

But considering capacity and frame rate, what does a 15% reduction entail?
