Hello. I have an issue with my computer (which is only two weeks old) I can't find a solution for online. After playing Hunt Showdown for about an hour (everything running fine) I suddenly get extreme lag - like less than 1 FPS. I can barely move my mouse. I managed to exit the game, but the lag persists on the desktop too. When gaming, the GPU is not hot (60 degrees) and neither is the CPU (65 degrees). After exiting the game it's just running standard idle with no load (30-40 degrees for all components). I can't see anything in Windows Event Manager either. It's as if Windows doesn't even recognise there's an issue although I can barely do anything with less than 1 FPS.
Sometimes I regain control of my mouse again, which is moving as normal with 144 HZ/frames, but the rest is still extremely laggy (opening a folder, browser or whatever - it's almost impossible). I tried ending different processes in the task manager (takes ages with this lag), but it didn't do anything. And I don't really have much software installed. If I restart the computer or simply sign out of my profile and log in again, the problem is gone until I start playing again for a while. What causes this?!
Spec is
- B650 aorus elite ax
- 4070 dual oc asus
- 7800x3d
- 750w PSU (can't remember it's name, but it was a high quality one)
- 32gb ram
- 2x nvme SSD (each 2 TB)
When playing the game, it's running completely smooth on all settings maxed (110-144 fps) until it out of nowhere begins this extreme lag with less than 1 FPS (takes almost a minute to just open task manager). Since it doesn't go away when I exit Hunt Showdown, I'm not even sure it has anything to do with that game. The computer is still new, so I haven't played much else on it.
EDIT: I have of course installed all the newest drivers. OS is Win11. My BIOS driver is not the newest but neither is it that old (from July). I've always been told not to touch the BIOS unless anything is wrong. I don't suppose it could be a BIOS issue?

What was the RAM/SSD consumption during the lag? Is the SSD nearly full and are you storing game footage?

I don't recall what the lag displayed when it occurred, but while I was still playing, it returned standard idle information (0-10% cpu usage and 6.5 gb ram usage)—essentially the same as what it shows now. My SSD was only 30% full, and it showed 0% usage again, matching the current status. All of this matches what Task Manager reports.

I might have actually resolved the problem by uninstalling Geforce Experience and removing Geforce Frameview (though I had no idea what those were). To check if the issue occurred in other games, I ran Starfield with maximum settings for 10 hours. No problems were found; everything appeared normal in HWinfo. Then I tried Hunt Showdown and let it run for as long as possible (the same in-game location where the issue previously occurred). After about 9 hours, I exited the game without issues. Almost identical HWinfo readings between Hunt and Starfield were seen—both heavily stressing the GPU but not much on the CPU. Usually, Hunt’s issue appears after just 0.5 to 1 hours of gameplay.

I’m surprised if the problem was really caused by Nvidia software. It’s also surprising, given how common these issues used to be with big companies like Nvidia and AMD.

Just to securely end this discussion for anyone who might encounter similar issues later, I want to confirm I haven’t faced any problems with Hunt Showdown (or any other game) after uninstalling the two programs I mentioned. It’s hard to say for sure if it was the sole reason, but this was the only adjustment I made.
