My Xbox 360 PC controller sporadically shuts down during gameplay in games like Need for Speed when my vehicle collides with walls or opponents, and in Fallout 4 while using weapons. The control works flawlessly when powered by a battery, but the issue begins when it’s connected to a USB port without one. Do you have any suggestions?

Following my investigation, it’s not unusual for this difficulty to occur. Numerous other Xbox 360 controller users experience the same problem, and a common fix involves connecting it to your Xbox – this frequently resolves all difficulties. Alternative approaches include swapping batteries or acquiring a replacement controller, although I strongly advise against the latter. USB cables are readily affordable, so you shouldn't incur significant costs to address this concern. Personally, I suggest utilizing a cable; however, if you absolutely require a wireless controller for any reason, experimenting with different battery options may be necessary, and potentially, you could end up needing to purchase a completely new controller depending on when your original device was bought.

Possibly, the controller’s battery has degraded and replacement might be necessary. I suspect this occurs due to its dependence on external power for operation.

In Far Cry 5, when I disable gamepad vibration, it functions without issue.

My investigation revealed that you’re not alone in experiencing this difficulty. A significant number of Xbox 360 controller users face the same problem, and a common resolution involves linking it to your Xbox – this often resolves the issue entirely. Alternative methods include swapping batteries or acquiring a replacement controller, though I strongly advise against this latter option. USB cables are typically affordable, so you shouldn’t need to spend a considerable amount to fix the problem. Personally, I'd suggest utilizing a cable; however, if you absolutely require a wireless controller for any reason, exploring alternative battery options might be worthwhile – though, in the worst case scenario, a new controller could become necessary depending on your original purchase date.
