Stuttering in Games
Stuttering in Games
The stuttering appears at the end of the video. GPU performance plummets to almost nothing, and FPS drops to about 7. It happens very briefly each time I begin a game within the first five minutes, mostly stopping afterward. However, it occurred twice during a previous session. I’m struggling to understand what’s happening.
What I’ve attempted:
- BIOS Updated
- GPU driver DDU'd in safe mode and reinstalled
- WiFi Driver updated
- Shader Cache set to 100gb
- HAGS turned ON
- Optimizations for Windowed games disabled
- Core isolation disabled

BIOS Updated
That's an ASRock board, for the sake of relevance, what BIOS version are you on?
RAM: 32gb 6000mhz
Got a link to the ram kit used?
GPU: 4090
Which RTX 4090 are you working with?
PSU: Unsure - Pretty sure it's a 1k Seasonic
Might want to be sure of it. You can pass on images of the stickered info on the PSU. Host said images on a site akin to Imgur then pass on a link on this thread for us to see, here.
I went through your video, what are the keyboard inputs you're doing while recording that video clip? You also stated
games
, please include the titles to said games.
Thank you for the welcome!
BIOS version 3.50
RAM kit not specified
GPU: MSI Suprim
PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-1000
Keyboard inputs: I'm just rapidly pressing keys to avoid getting AFK banned. This problem is consistently reproducible—every time I launch a game, whether in menus or during a match, it occurs without exception.
You're playing BF6 on WiFi and seeing high usage stats. From the video, it looks like the main issues might be overheating, lack of power, a drive problem, or a connection glitch. Try using a wired connection to check if that helps. Also, do you play any offline games or other online games?
Aye, I'm playing over WiFi. If it was a connection issue, wouldn't the problem be consistent throughout a gaming session? Not just within the first 5 minutes of starting and playing a game?
I play Risk of Rain 2, Star Citizen, and Hunt: Showdown. Hunt: Showdown does the same thing. However I haven't noticed it in Star Citizen.
Also; i'm not sure if you looked at the image I provided. During the stutter GPU usage drops to 0, and it goes Idle. This is consistently replicated during the stutter. Would this coincide with a connection issue?
Does it also happen in-game or only in menus? Usually, when there's a connection slowdown the game engine is still running so the frame rate is not really affected but you see a lot of lag. However, if there's a connection problem with the server, the game can pause for a moment waiting for a reconnection (and kicks you out if it can't reconnect). In the later case, both GPU and CPU usage drops until a good connection is restored.
If you play the game for a while, close it and launch it again, do you still have the problem during the first 5 minutes?
This occurs in menus or during gameplay. After playing for some time, closing the application and restarting it, the problem resurfaces within the first five minutes. Here’s a summary of what my GPU is doing while I play Star Citizen. It’s worth mentioning that this game doesn’t have the same issue. The main problem so far is only seen in BF6 and Hunt: Showdown.
