FreeSync serves as an alternative to V-Sync. V-Sync avoids tearing by halving your frame rate when it doesn't align with your monitor's refresh speed. Adaptive Sync systems communicate with your display to reduce the refresh rate, ensuring it matches your frame rate.

I believed AMD intends for freesync to work alongside V-Sync, and it's possible my display anticipates a DP1.4 link rather than the standard 1.2 cable.
