Stuttering and tearing are common challenges many face.
Stuttering and tearing are common challenges many face.
I'm experiencing stuttering and screen tearing in Aliens Fire Team and World War Z. Other titles like GTA 5, Killing Floor 2, and Valhiem seem to run smoothly. ARK also has some tearing problems, but I believe it's due to poor coding rather than hardware. These games are played in multiplayer, which is what I'm using them for. I'm trying to figure out the cause so I can decide if upgrading is necessary. PCPartPicker lists my current setup: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, ASRock B450 motherboard, Corsair memory, Intel SSD, and a few other components. I'm using these in multiplayer mode. The issue might be related to the older games or the way they're running on my system. I should note that both game drives are over ten years old, and my PC was built before many of these titles were popular. I feel my hardware might be pushing too hard, especially with the RX 5700 graphics card.
When resetting drops, it helps determine if the issue is related to stuttering or tearing. Try adjusting settings and resetting again. If the problem worsens, it may point to a CPU issue; if it improves, the GPU might be struggling with the resolution.
Rx 5700 functions best as a 1080p graphics card. A more affordable 1440p option would resemble a 6700XT priced around $350, or a 6650XT for about $300.
You can use the built-in Benchmark tool in WWZ instead of loading to a level.
Consider relocating the game to your current SSD and observe any improvements. It should enhance performance. If not, your CPU might be the issue. My friend experienced stuttering in certain titles and an RTX 2060 with a Ryzen 2600. Switching to a Ryzen 3600 resolved the problem at 1440p. Regarding tearing, does turning on VSync make a difference?
At high resolutions I’m seeing around 60 FPS, though tearing still occurs. The Radeon Software suggests an alternative to VSync that didn’t help. My GPU stays under 80% usage, CPU stays below 30%, RAM is just over half used and I have about 10 GB free out of 16 GB. This is part of the benchmark data. I’m wondering if the issue now relates to the internet. Since we’re in Michigan and my friends live in Colorado on the same ISP, I’m unsure if traffic stays on Comcast or goes through another network. If I have time over the weekend, I might test a single-player game to see if performance matches.
