I experience intense frame drops during my first Unreal Engine run because of the initial Shader Compile issue, plus occasional stutters on my rig. It's really frustrating since nothing seems to function properly. I've disabled E-cores, overclocked, adjusted power plans, used XMP, turned off VSync and G-SYNC, applied FPS caps, enabled low-latency mode, switched to AMD, upgraded the SSD, and changed motherboard settings. Still nothing works. Do you think my graphics card is broken? Should I replace it? Would switching to an AMD system be a better option? My current setup includes: GPU ASUS TUF 3070 TI 8GB Non-oc CPU Intel Core i7 12700KF Cooler Aorus Waterforce 240 Motherboard Corssair RGB Vengeance Pro 3600 Mhz CL18 DDR4 RAM GameMax RGB 1050w Case Lian Li Lancool 215 SSD Corsair MP600 Pro LPX 1TB Windows Samsung SSD 870 EVO 1TB HDD.
It's completely honest to say the game quality isn't great, especially with UE5. They managed to get it right with UE3 and 4, though. It was still a rough ride, but most titles ran smoothly.
It might be due to how the shader pipeline works or how caching is handled. Adjusting the value to zero could reset the behavior.
It's interesting how some individuals face greater challenges than others! Many of my friends own high-end GPUs like 3070 Ti and 3050 Ti yet don't experience the same problems as me. Yet there are others who share similar issues despite having a 4090. I'm really puzzled about what's going on here. Some believe switching to an AMD card would improve things because AMD uses the RDNA3 architecture, which is also found in gaming consoles. This suggests that games should run better on AMD RDNA3 cards even on PC systems.
On consoles and Steam Deck you receive ready-made shaders tailored to the hardware, allowing precise optimization. On PC you must compile shaders for every possible configuration and after each driver change. A decent CPU can reduce stutter somewhat, though it doesn’t always work. Games like Jedi Survivor or Dead Space remaster often become unplayable this way.
