Stuck in overclock
Hi there,
Just starting this thread so I’m sure I’m keeping things respectful.
I recently rebuilt a PC that handles our video server, security system, and Steam games across the house.
It came with Gigabyte B360M-DS3H, Core i5-8400 2.8GHz, 16GB Corsair Vengeance 2400, and ATI Radeon 550 (not requiring top-end specs).
Everything functioned perfectly until I ran some benchmarks with UserBenchmark – the scores came in below average, which was okay.
After that, I updated all the drivers, still no issues.
Then I accidentally installed the Gigabyte AppCenter and Easytune.
I attempted to overclock using Easytune, but the BIOS resisted (didn’t save).
I increased memory from 2400 to 2600 and the CPU up to 3.7GHz (turbo max listed as 4.0), just to test.
The mouse started lagging – freezing every few seconds.
I reset everything to defaults and removed Easytune and other programs, hoping that would help.
But the lag persisted, and the CPU clock stuck at 3.7GHz.
BIOS indicated it was set to 2.8 but running at 3.7.
Speccy confirmed the issue.
I encountered a hardware error with the mouse.

Updated the BIOS to the newest release and reset the CMOS. The mouse issue appeared briefly today, then vanished again. The CPU clock remains stuck at 3.7 / 3.8 instead of the original 2.8K, fluctuating even when idle after reflashing and resetting. Core temperatures are normal (35°C typically, slightly higher during gaming but never exceeding 60). I’m unsure what to do now—everything seems functional but I miss the stock setup.
