I'm trying to push my i7 920 beyond its current speed of 3.0 GHz, but it seems like a big jump isn't enough. Any attempt to go higher causes the system to crash and display a black screen. Here are my computer details:
CPU i7 920 3.0 GHz OC
GPU gtx 960 4 GB OC base clock +175 memory clock +450
PSU Cooler Master 520W
10 GB DDR3 RAM
Motherboard DFI LP JR x58
Cooler Hyper 212 EVO
If anyone has advice, it would be really helpful.

Have you attempted increasing the vcore before? Yes, I have tried it, though I'm not entirely confident due to the outdated BIOS on my motherboard.

Check if the vcore was increased using various monitoring tools such as HWInfo and cpu-z.
