Hi everyone, I hope you're doing well today. I'm facing a problem with Kubuntu Linux updates when I try to run Sudo apt update in the Terminal—it keeps stating all packages are up to date, which has been happening for about 1½ to 2 weeks now. Since I'm not very familiar with Linux updates, I wonder if some of those updates would have appeared in the terminal before. Any advice or help would be appreciated! Also, I didn't realize I needed to mention if this applies to Kubuntu 18.04. Thanks!

It's an LTS release and it came out 1.5 years ago so it's possible there simply aren't any updates at the moment, depending on what you installed. The command to update your packages however is apt upgrade not apt update

This seems a bit unusual, but you're right to notice the differences between versions. It looks like you're using KDE Plasma 5.12.9 and now switching to 5.17.2. To update, check your system settings or the official KDE documentation for instructions specific to your release. Automatic updates aren't guaranteed, so it's good to follow the recommended steps to ensure stability.

I believe I've resolved the issue! The terminal commands are detailed in the video's description.

Notice, the video references Ubuntu (similar to most stable distros) which typically doesn't receive the latest updates at launch or not at all—the focus is on critical fixes and security patches instead of new features. The goal is that to get newer packages, you should upgrade to a more recent version of the distribution, such as 19.10, which was released recently.
