Struggling with a challenge?
Greetings!
I frequently encounter a situation within games such as Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey where my central processing unit reaches 100% utilization while my graphics card remains below 90%. This occurs without any overclocking modifications. Occasionally, I observe the graphics card being limited to 99% while the CPU remains at 100%, with a lower GPU usage. Should I have invested in a more powerful processor?
All graphical settings are set to the maximum within the game, except for ambient occlusion, which is configured at a high level. I’ve noticed that the graphics card's usage can decrease to as little as 55%, coinciding with a CPU load of 100%, resulting in a frame rate reduction to approximately 50-55 frames per second. It appears that fog rendering may be a significant strain on the CPU.
My hardware specifications are as follows:
MSI B360M Mortar motherboard
Intel Core i5-9600K processor
Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4 cooler
2x8GB 2666MHz Kingston HyperX RAM
MSI Gaming X GTX 1660Ti graphics card
Be Quiet! Pure Power 11 600W power supply
Kingston 240GB SSD
Toshiba 1TB HDD
Be Quiet! Pure Base 600 case
I’d examine other processes consuming processor resources while gaming.
The CPU activity appears excessively elevated for the processor’s specifications.
I believe a strong central processing unit should not significantly limit any game's performance.
This processor is quite capable.
I’ve experienced lower-performance CPUs in games without encountering performance bottlenecks.
The observed CPU load seems unusually peculiar.
My computer’s processor usage remains below 2%, which is why I installed Malwarebytes to prevent background mining and similar activities. However, certain areas, especially when there’s significant fog present, appear to significantly strain my CPU.
Update: I recorded another screenshot while the game was running and here are the performance statistics using MSI and RTSS.
Update 2: I took another capture while moving around for a period, and the frame times are extremely inconsistent. What could be responsible for this? When I lower graphics settings from Ultra to High, my GPU usage drops to 50-70%, but the CPU still consistently reaches 100% capacity. Is running a game at constant maximum CPU load detrimental to the processor?
