Hello, I'm trying to use a Ryzen 5 with GTX1650 and COD MW 2019. At medium-high settings in 1080p, the CPU is using over 70-80% and the GPU over 95% all the time. However, when I increase the settings very high—like render resolution at 200% and shadow detail—I see the CPU drops to around 60% and the GPU stays at 99%. Can you help explain why the CPU usage decreases under those extreme settings? Thanks in advance.

The greater the graphics demand based on settings, the more work the GPU handles instead of the CPU. Higher frame rates usually put more strain on the CPU than simply increasing GPU settings. Essentially, you're indicating what the system expects, and your GPU is pushed to its limits so the CPU can't exceed its capabilities.

It's a delicate equilibrium. Increasing settings forces more processing onto the GPU, which handles higher-quality visuals. The greater the desired quality, the longer each frame takes to render. This causes the GPU to become the limiting factor. The CPU merely waits for the GPU to complete its task, which reduces overall demand.

At higher settings, the GPU spends more time refining a frame due to increased detail, resulting in better visual quality but also greater demand on the GPU. Consequently, the CPU must pause until the GPU completes its task before proceeding. Conversely, with lower graphics settings, the GPU renders frames faster, allowing the CPU to manage more frames simultaneously. CMIIW.

Consider CPU activity minimal as favorable, high GPU performance is also positive.
