Struggling to surpass +30 core clock speed with the GTX 970 FTW card
The title describes observations and experiences related to adjusting settings for a specific card model. It mentions seeing posts about achieving higher core speeds, reaching over 1500 MHz without voltage changes, maintaining temperatures below 70°C, setting power targets at 110%, and trying voltage adjustments without success. It also references discussions on ACX versus ACX+ versions.
My previous ATI XFX HD 5770 would push the core beyond its standard speed, causing significant fluctuations during overclocking attempts.
EDIT:
Adjusted the core frequency to 106 MHz instead of the original 156 MHz. The standard stock was 850 MHz and would remain stable at 956 MHz.
Do you know why your card isn't trying to run at a faster clock speed? Not every chip will overclock equally. Some will only reach 15-20 MHz above stock, while others can easily hit 100-200+ MHz. This variation is called the silicon lottery—seemingly, you didn’t win that one. For instance, my AMD HD 7970 only reaches 40 MHz over the 925 MHz stock and stays stable, but some models go above 1000 MHz. I experienced the same issue with my gaming card.
There seems to be a difference in how various chips perform. Some only reach around 15-20 MHz over stock, while others can easily exceed 100-200 MHz. This variation is often called the silicon lottery. It looks like you didn't win that lottery with your card.
