I've noticed some unusual green markings when booting into BIOS and Windows on my new monitor. I suspected a faulty display port input, so I swapped in my 4080 for the older 1060 to test. The problem vanished completely. I've experimented with various DP cables but found none affected the issue. Now I'm trying to determine if the issue lies with the monitor itself or with the GPU or other hardware components. Steps I've taken: changed cables, repositioned GPU and power connector, reinstalled drivers after using DDU, scanned Windows for corrupt files, verified latest Nvidia DP firmware, checked for faulty contacts in the PCIe slot and GPU connector, tried different display port outputs on the GPU, and confirmed HDMI works fine. I suspect the 1060 might be outdated or incompatible due to age or quirks, possibly failing to drive the display properly compared to the 4080. The Odyssey G7 QC has a history of problems. HDMI cables are unaffected. Any suggestions on next steps? My specs include a Ryzen 7 5800X with 32GB RAM, Corsair RAM sticks, ASUS STRIX x570-E, Windows 11 Pro, and storage devices.

Your current setup seems functional, but the monitor appears to be the issue rather than your 4080. Compare the features you use with the 4080 versus the 1060—things like Overdrive, HDR, or Adaptive Sync might differ. Since it works in both BIOS and Windows, it likely depends on a hardware feature not tied to drivers or OS settings.

Looking for recent motherboard BIOS updates? Testing the GPU on another system works well. Checking for memory issues in the GPU is important. Using a different monitor with the same connection type can help.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to test HDR properly yet. Adaptive sync and overdrive remain unchanged. Previously, I used g-sync but reset all Nvidia and monitor configurations, which is why it's not active now. The problem persists despite those changes. I don’t have another machine to try it on. I haven’t checked for GPU memory errors, but I’ll look into that later. Regarding the monitor, I might borrow one from a nearby repair shop or ask a friend who lives close by. One useful observation is that when using HDMI, the screen would shut off briefly—so I’ll switch back to my old HDMI display to see if it repeats.

The HDR question sparked some reflections. I recalled a similar issue with my old monitor (the one I sent back). I was trying to turn the Resizable BAR on, but the BIOS wasn’t showing correctly. One setting I changed was CSM, and after restoring it, the green flashing in BIOS disappeared. Another thing I noticed was that my 1060 can't display 10-bit color. After switching it to 8-bit on the 4080, I still couldn’t see the green flashing when logging in. I’m pretty sure the BIOS fix with CSM worked, but I’m not sure about the Windows part—it’s inconsistent, sometimes the screen goes dark before the login screen appears. Edit: Turning on 10-bit color confirmed the flashing in Windows. What’s happening? Display stream compression seems broken, and some strange settings are messing up the rebar.

I believe the way graphics appear in BIOS with CSM differs from UEFI. It’s unclear why UEFI might have visual issues while CSM does not. I’m not sure, but I know NVIDIA has released updates for those problems (link), though they don’t specify the symptoms. Perhaps some software or graphics aren’t suited for 10-bit color cards, which could be a factor. This seems beyond my expertise. From what you described, it looks like neither the 4080 nor the monitor is faulty—other issues likely involve configuration, compatibility, display standards, and drivers/software. Do you use the game drivers or the studio drivers for your 4080?

I'm running the latest game drivers, I've never touched the studio ones. I'll try to find some settings online that maybe I need to play around with to get stuff running. I was under the impression that with DSC you can get 240hz 1440p with 10bit colour and HDR. I'm not sure I'll be able to test my PC on another display with DSC to verify if it's the GPU that's at fault here though so here's hoping there's a magic setting I missed somewhere .

The issue seems limited to the BIOS and Windows startup, possibly due to BIOS limitations on 10-bit color. Graphics performance might not be affected, but display issues could stem from driver simplicity. Hardware support might still be developing, so these problems could resolve over time. Trying them might help, as they could be refined later.

Consider turning off the MultiPlane Overlay MPO and trying again.
