I was using my PC around 2 a.m., and suddenly there was a loud “crack” sound, like something dropped. Everything went dark—lights, monitors, even the mouse. The only light was my wireless mouse plugged into a USB pass-through on my keyboard, which is connected to the power strip. I’m not sure if this matters or helps, but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Now the PC won’t power on. The power strip seems fine and is supplying power to other devices without issues. I wasn’t under heavy load; I was on a Discord call and had the fan running high because it was late. The open apps were Chrome, one YouTube tab, one Twitch tab, Core, Spotify, NXT Cam, and Steam. My machine has a Ryzen 7 5800X, an EVGA FWT3 Ultra 3070, 32 GB DDR4 3600 CL16, 3 TB NVMe SSD, and an NXT C850W power supply. I’ve never had power problems, don’t overclock, and it wasn’t running a big workload. I need help figuring out what’s wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.
Start by testing the power supply unit. Visit a nearby PC shop to have it inspected. A quick self-test involves turning on the PC and observing the PSU fan—should it spin immediately and then stop as expected. If it doesn’t start or wobbles when trying to boot, the PSU is likely faulty.
