Streaming content from a smart TV over a local network
I'm looking for assistance with setting up a LAN at your home. You want to stream Netflix on your phone and cast it to your smart TV without an internet connection. You're using an old Wi-Fi router that you reset, connecting both devices, but the TV won't open the Netflix app. It seems the TV needs a stable internet connection for the apps to function properly. Your TV is a VIZIO and your phone is a Pixel 2 XL. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Yes, the Netflix app on your TV requires an internet connection. A Chrome Cast setup might work, but it’s uncertain. The phone app needs Chrome Cast enabled, and the TV must support built-in casting or have a compatible streaming device. Some phones allow using a special HDMI cable for direct connection.
Hey Donut417, thanks for the reply. I initially considered using a ChromeCast, but I’m hesitant to spend money if it doesn’t work out. I tried a few troubleshooting steps last night. My wife also has a Pixel 2 XL; she used it as a hotspot and connected both devices. Still couldn’t get the Netflix app to open on the TV. Not sure if it was trying to update or just not connected properly. The TV was supposed to have ChromeCast built-in, but it seems they rebranded it as SmartCast and made some changes.
