It might not always improve streaming performance, but it can help if your GPU is bottlenecked.
This would be useless because it only increases heat and doesn't improve quality. For better results, try CPU encoding with a bitrate of 2000-3000. In OBS advanced settings, slower CPU presets yield higher quality but impact performance more. I usually pick "faster" without any issues.
