Hello,
I usually enjoy strategy games set in ancient times or earlier eras, especially titles like Total War series such as Rome 2, Shogun 2, and Empire. I’m now looking for recommendations on modern-themed strategy games. I’m particularly interested in naval battles, as well as aerial combat and modern artillery. Do you have any suggestions for games that match these preferences?
PS. I have the budget, I don’t support piracy, and I’m open to spending money on new titles available on Steam or other platforms.

How contemporary is contemporary? From what I understand, there hasn't been a strategy game centered around events like the conflicts in Iraq or Afghanistan because these topics are quite sensitive. There have been a few games using the Cold War as a setting, but the ones I've played aren't full grand strategy titles like the Total War series. Some games also pay homage to historical moments while still keeping things fictionalized, such as Command and Conquer: Generals.

But considering that most conflicts over the past 30 years have been asymmetric, I believe they wouldn't be suitable for a good strategy game either.

The only games I've played are Full Spectrum Warrior, which is on both Steam and GOG. Not as current, but strategy-focused are Easy Red 2 and Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive, both set during WWII.
