Strange video speed when playing games
Hey, I just bought a GTX 3070 Ti to swap in for my old 2060 card. I thought it would make things run much faster but the speed barely changed at all. Could this be a problem with the other stuff? My CPU is an Intel i5-9600K, and my motherboard is the MSI Z390-A PRO. For memory, I have 32GB of DDR4 RAM from Corsair running at 2400 MHz using four blocks of eight GB each. I also got a 250 GB SSD from Crucial called MX500 that sits on my desk. My power supply is a 700-watt unit with RGB lighting, and I don't know why some games run so badly while others are super fast. For instance, I only get about 40 frames per second when playing Saints Row on low settings, but I hit 90 to 120 FPS in Destiny 2 even though the graphics are set to ultra. This happens with all my games; some play really well and some do not at all. Thanks so much for any advice!
I'm mainly checking the CPU because it might not have enough power to run some games fast. If you turn down the graphics settings all the way and performance doesn't change much, then the CPU is likely causing the issue. The other thing to check could be the power supply unit (PSU). High-end RTX 30 series cards are known for sudden power spikes that can cause problems.
Definitely going to improve things. You might want to swap out the RAM just like that, but if you're broke right now and need something quickly, you can stick with your old stuff until you get new ones. Ryzen runs best on DDR4-3200 or higher though, so make sure you check what you have before deciding.
