Hello, I recently assembled a new PC featuring a Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X (DDR5), an Intel 12600k, and a Samsung 980 Pro in the M.2 slot for the CPU. It’s placed next to my server in another room. The connection to my monitor uses a 20-meter optical DisplayPort 1.4 cable, which connects to a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort keystone jack in the wall, then to a DisplayPort 5-meter normal cable, and finally to the monitor. I also have an active USB 3.0 cable (non-optical). The setup has been stable, supporting 1440p at 60 Hz for about a week now.

Recently, I received a 3080 Ti and installed it in the PCI-E 16x slot with extra power connectors. It’s recognized by both BIOS and Windows at Gen 4 speed. My problem is that the optical DisplayPort only functions at 24 Hz; anything above that results in no signal. Additionally, even at 24 Hz, it won’t appear unless another connection—like HDMI or DisplayPort—is present. If the optical DP is the sole device connected, it doesn’t show up at all, which seems confusing.

I’ve also tried connecting a monitor directly via a short non-optical cable, and that worked perfectly. This suggests the optical cable might be the issue, though I’m unsure why the motherboard/IGPU works fine but the GPU struggles. Disabling G-Sync didn’t help either.

What could be causing this? What steps can I take to resolve it?

Recent testing shows the problem is limited to my AOC AG271QG. The other two LG monitors are functioning perfectly across all resolutions and refresh rates, including 4K. It’s a shame since the AOC supports over 60Hz refresh and G-Sync, but at least I can still use my work LG for now. If anyone knows why the AOC and my RTX 3080 Ti clash, I’d appreciate any help!
