Strange issue with USB-C adapter
Strange issue with USB-C adapter
Hey there... I recently switched my PC configuration to a Thunderbolt setup with my laptop. I’m using two dongles: one with two DP 1.4 ports and another with USB, Ethernet, power over Ethernet, and an SD card slot. Everything functioned properly until I unplugged the laptop from the Ethernet port with the dongle. After that, both my Wi-Fi and LAN connections stopped working—my router’s LAN ports didn’t respond at all. I discovered this was due to leaving the laptop plugged in but not connected to the power outlet. I’ve tested several dongles of the same type, but the issue persists. If I connect the Ethernet cable directly into my modem, it works and the modem stays operational even after unplugging the laptop. My guess is that the dongle is receiving too much power and sending it over PoE to the router, which isn’t compatible with my specific model. I’m using a Netgear R6800 router and a Satechi USB-C Aluminium Multiport Adapter. Anyone have suggestions on how to resolve this? I’m really confused and don’t know where to start searching for solutions.
