Strange feelings and blue error messages after upgrading to RTX4090 + 12700K, need advice.
Hey everyone, just finished upgrading my setup with an i7 12700k, Gigabyte Aero G Z690 (BIOS v20.2b), Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz CL36 (XMP enabled), Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX4090 (driver 526.47 and 522.25 tried), plus Corsair RM1000X PSU. Everything is current, including the newest GPU drivers and Windows updates. I’ve been facing some problems lately – especially with BF2042. I can’t play a single match without freezing or crashing. It usually ends with me hitting the desktop, though sometimes it shows an error like “DirectX function GetDeviceRemovedReason - DXGI_ERROR_HUNG.” I’ve seen several blue screens too, with messages like “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” and a crashing ntoskrnl.exe. My task manager always lists the RTX4090 at 100% usage, but the HWMonitor says only about 2% during idle. RDR2 also crashes after a while, but not immediately. I’ve tried updating the BIOS, fresh installing Windows from a bootable drive (including wiping the SSD for my GPU), and running stress tests on both GPU and CPU to check PSU and temperature stability using Cinbench and Furmark. I’ve also repaired BF2042 and re-downloaded the game multiple times. Thanks in advance for any advice – I really appreciate it!
Are you connecting your GPU using various power cables or linking them together? It’s best to use separate cables, though in some situations it might not be possible. Additionally, I’m aware that the newest NVIDIA driver 522.25 is experiencing unusual problems. Switching to an older version such as 512.95 could be a good idea.
Hey, I noticed you're using four different PCIe cables from your power supply. You ran the CPU and GPU at full load during a stress test and everything held up without any issues. After updating to the latest drivers (526.47), the same problem appeared as with the older drivers (522.25). Would you like advice on reverting back to the 512.95 version? Thanks!
Choose your own path—just install the latest NVIDIA Driver 512.95. REMEMBER: it resolved my strange GPU problems with the 3070 yesterday. Check the driver that came with your GPU or the default Windows driver, and confirm the version isn’t lower than 512.95. Either way, you’re likely searching for an older release by looking up NVIDIA Driver xxx.xx online.
