I tried to fix my CPU cooling issue by removing the thermal paste and dust. The cleaning supplies didn’t help much, and when I tried to take it off, the cooler stuck tightly to the chip. Because of the warranty issues, I went with the 3800X instead. After installing the new chip, I used the old Prism cooler from the 3700X since it had already been cleaned. The fans and lights seemed normal, but the PC wouldn’t boot. I checked the motherboard and saw a red DRAM light. I was worried I might need to replace the board or RAM sticks, so I swapped the RAM and tried dual-channel mode. It worked—until I realized it didn’t recognize Windows or BIOS. I read a suggestion about loosening the cooler screws, which seemed unlikely since the cooler had an Intel chip. Eventually, I followed that advice and tightened them slightly. The next boot brought dual-channel back, which was a relief. The main downside was that my thermal paste didn’t improve much, and I spent a lot of money on it. Still, it worked—just a reminder to handle coolers carefully and avoid over-tightening.
