Stop GamerGate 2014
I don’t care about what she said or who she is. What the threats against her reveal is that the gaming world isn’t a positive one. Of course there are some negative players, but everyone should try to stay focused. We can’t let this cycle of conflict and blood feuds dominate the community.
A lot of details are out there, but the main point is gaming journalism has been operating in a shadowy corner, often supporting games tied to personal interests. A key figure is Zoe Quinn, while Anita Sarkesian gained attention with a Kickstarter about sexism in games—though her videos were low quality and lacked thorough research. The Gamergate controversy emerged, pushing for more transparency, but critics dismissed these issues as misogynistic. Many gaming sites also published similar stories on the same day, often focusing on extreme viewpoints. Edit: I’ll look for better, more in-depth content about Gamergate. Gamer’s fight back! GameGate is merely a massive online advertising site. Everyone should step back carefully and adjust their approach. It's just a huge chaos, and what began as a discussion about one topic has turned into a common internet argument that spreads unnecessary anger (like death threats). Just stop.
Tomb Raider delves into the raw and realistic beginnings of Lara Croft, showing her transformation from a youthful figure to a resilient adventurer. ^boom there, Tomb Raider isn't the sole title with a female lead, what about Portal?
This whole situation aims to spark a debate or issue that doesn’t actually exist—it’s similar to man-made global warming or Viagra for women. It’s about creating a market where someone like Sarkeesian can produce confusing videos or products and profit from it. Just keep ignoring her; she won’t alter anything since game developers aren’t foolish. They won’t risk offending customers who buy their games. And if you’re into the idea of objectification, there will always be Japanese titles available.
Considering an alternative perspective, the threats could come from outside the gaming community entirely.
Notice this discussion is unnecessary. Many are connecting this issue to feminism, which could harm any genuine feminist movement. Women’s rights are being ignored worldwide every day, and focusing so much energy on this debate while linking it to feminism is a loss. It’s time to end this conversation because the issue isn’t real.
