Developers often do things that hurt the game experience. Some titles have really poor post-processing, and even one used a blue lens everywhere. To improve, I check each game’s settings and then search for mods that can fix issues or enhance features.
I saw this setting when I first played Alien: Isolation, and I wasn’t sure what it did, but using it now makes everything look blurry. (I didn’t realize it was there while playing) A:I wanted a worn-out 80s vibe, so a faded film effect fits the theme, but I wouldn’t use it in most games.
The issue with depth of field is that it assumes awareness of the specific area in the photo. I understand it's less severe than motion blur.
