Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out this issue with my HP Victus 16.1 gaming laptop. It's an AMD Ryzen 7-8845HS with 16GB DDR5 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, 512GB SSD, and Mica Silver 16-s1023dx. I've been using it for talking in Discord and doing sound tests on Windows. Normally, I can speak for 20-30 seconds without any problems, but then the mic just stops working. It's not a loud drop in volume—it feels like it's not picking up at all.

I used to have a similar setup on my old desktop, and it worked fine back then. Now this one seems different. I've checked all three USB ports, tried a new inbox Razer headset, and even reinstalled Windows, removed all McAfee, HP, and Office apps. Updated the GPU drivers to the latest version, but nothing changed. I've gone through every troubleshooting guide I can find.

I'm really stuck and can't seem to get it fixed. No luck with friends online either—this is frustrating. Any suggestions or tips would be super helpful! Thanks!

Choose a microphone model. Visit the manufacturer's site, download the newest driver, and install it. Launch Device Manager, then navigate to Sound, video, and game controllers. Highlight the listed devices and click Action at the top, choosing Add Legacy Hardware. Pick sound video and game controllers, locate the driver, and install it.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been using your setup for the steel series and everything seems to work correctly. The drivers are functioning well, and the audio appears properly after your instructions. However, the microphone still dies after about 30 seconds in both Discord and Windows sound tests. I've uninstalled everything and tried using my Razer headset, which also worked fine. Now I'm considering other solutions, as having two headsets that work on my desktop but not with my new HP laptop seems confusing. I'm wondering if the laptop might be faulty—once it stops working, it's hard to fix. Could there be an issue with the device itself? It’s clear when something isn’t working, and it won’t pick up sound for longer than a few seconds.
