I’m checking my brand new Steel Legend RX 9070 XT setup on an older system before acquiring additional components for a new build. After installing the GPU, fans start and RGB lights activate, but I don’t see any connection to my monitor. The motherboard’s BOOT LED remains lit, and I can’t reach BIOS settings. Removing the GPU and booting with just the i5-8400 works perfectly. Since there’s no SSD or hard drive installed, this is solely for POST testing.

Issues: BIOS update successful, PCIe Max link enabled, Gen3 settings applied. I powered the GPU using a single 8-pin PCIe cable that splits into two 6-pin ports. Tested various DP and HDMI connections, switched to another x4 PCIe slot, re-seated the GPU, and ensured the PCIe retention clip was secure. After reseating, the 9070 still didn’t appear in the PCIe slot despite receiving power and RGB activation. It’s getting heat, but no signal reaches the monitor.
Troubleshooting steps:
- Confirm BIOS is correctly updated and PCIe settings are set.
- Try different cables or ports, including USB-C if available.
- Check for any BIOS warnings or error codes during boot.
- Verify the GPU driver is installed and compatible with your OS.
- If possible, test on a different motherboard or system to rule out hardware issues.
Could this be a compatibility problem with the Z370 board, or might the GPU itself be faulty? Any guidance would be helpful.
It seems the GPU might be damaged. When you tried booting with IGPU and didn't see it in the PCI list, it makes sense that the GPU isn't functioning properly. Since the old PCI lane still works, a new GPU won't boot correctly because the motherboard can't locate it after the first startup. You could continue using IGPU, reseat the connections, inspect the cables, and try booting into BIOS to verify the PCI list each time. This way you can confirm if the issue is truly with the GPU.
