I attempted to upgrade my kernel, but it seems the process didn’t complete successfully.

It seems the issue lies with the NVIDIA drivers you're attempting to install. They're designed for Arch Linux's kernel, not Steam OS's. The dkms package will need rebuilding. Should I ask how much effort you're prepared to put in, or would you prefer a different distribution that fits better?

You need to set up the Arch Linux kernel by running pacman -S linux. You might run into issues with NVIDIA, so it’s better to use Linux LTS. The hook script in /etc/pacman.d/hooks will prompt Pacman to rebuild the NVIDIA driver automatically. If that works, we’ll move on to teaching the system how to boot and identifying the boot manager used by SteamOS.

The installation completed, but I'm uncertain if it regenerated the NVIDIA module.

If it succeeded, we can infer it functioned properly. Now let's determine the boot process for /boot and retrieve the results.

The system loads from three boot images: holoiso, neptune, and neptune fallback. Each image corresponds to a specific kernel module and initramfs file.
