Hello everyone, I'm looking for a solution but couldn't find one that fits my setup. I have three drives with games installed: a Gen 4 NVMe SSD (500GB), a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, and a 2TB Firecuda SSHD. Both SSDs are working fine, but when I try to download games via Steam on the SSHD, it takes as long as it does for an 80GB game. I do this overnight to avoid stress. It seems to happen most of the time, though not always. Another thing I noticed is a previous issue with one drive—its SATA cable didn't click properly. I contacted Seagate support, who suggested returning it for repair. Eventually, I fixed it without going through RMA because it was too inconvenient. My download speeds are around 40-50 Mbps when it's functioning correctly.

Space saves all information properly to the storage device. If it doesn’t work, look into the task manager—likely the hard drive speed is restricting it.

I've used HDDs before, but they didn't have this spec. They were 7200RPM, not 5400RPM. It's odd since the Amazon page says these should be the fastest among Baracuda and Baracuda Pro. The active time is at 99%, and currently it's delivering 125MB/s out of 250MB/s.

I think some of those are smr, so they will be much slower in some writing workloads. But this is pretty normal, and my hdd for games does the same thing.

Seemed like the drive was behaving oddly. Could switch to an SSD for a fix. Appreciate the help!

Just checking if this makes sense for you.

The velocities need to be significantly increased. It seems like a slow HDD is involved, and these drives can become 10 times slower during certain tasks. This likely matches the type of workload we're observing.

It seems like the system is performing poorly for your needs. Right now, the progress is slow—half the buffer is filled, and it shows an 8-minute estimate despite all downloads.

After downloading, the game will operate smoothly at normal speed.

Hey, I just made the change you mentioned. Regarding your question, an SSD can indeed perform similarly to a standard HDD in terms of speed, so the performance difference shouldn't be significant.
