Steam on old, Steam on New
Steam on old, Steam on New
I recently changed my gaming setup from a Ryzen 1800x and 1080ti to a Ryzen 9800x3d and 5070ti. My previous setup used Windows 10 and a 1TB NVMe drive. I installed a new 4TB NVMe drive with Windows 11. When I power on my current system, will I automatically restore my old saves from Steam games? For instance, in No Man's Sky I have more than 300 hours of playtime and saved game. Should I transfer my old drive to the new system or keep using the new one?
When I power up my new system and reload Steam, will I retrieve my previous saves from my Steam games? If you still have your older setup active, relocate your Steam folder to a separate physical drive. The location of your game save files depends on the developers, but the following links are useful resources:

It should be stored in Steam's Cloud Storage, if applicable, then review this page:

For those Steam titles without cloud saving, open Steam as if you're about to start the game. In the Library section, just below the PLAY button, click the store link. Once on the store page, locate the community area. There, find the folder string that stores your game saves. This folder resides in a path like x86/Steam/User/folder_name. Search through the files and match the number sequence to what appears on the store page for the desired game. Transfer those saved files from the old Steam account to the new one. Rebooting Steam is recommended. The game should launch with all previous saves intact.
