What are your thoughts on valve's recent changes to their steam user interface? I find them quite unappealing.

I... kinda like it. But the way space looks gets really bad once you exceed 1920x1080. That's exactly what a game selection screen appears like at 2560x1600.

I liked it. It surprised me a bit when I saw it yesterday.
It's a little different from what you're used to, but the layout for 'Home' is now better.

Here is the game page at 2160p, by the way:

there are many issues with it, like the options to resize tiles are gone and half of the steam tiles are broken. It’s frustrating having the same side showing the same thing. The mini mode is missing, sorting by release date isn’t working in grid mode, and most games don’t have a release date—sometimes it just says “unknown” in a confusing list format. I can’t rearrange games into collections properly, and if you sort by type in one collection, it applies the same sorting everywhere. Most importantly, I really want my purple theme back.

It consumes a lot of storage space. Also, it appears to be slow and has some issues. I've encountered it locking onto me a few times.

Oh joy, Steam found out how to handle awful CEF apps too. Please Steam, these aren't mobile phones, why are you making it look like nVidia Experience (which is also bad, but you know why they did this... so controllers can be used to navigate it.) Can you tell the difference?

I've been using beta versions on Steam for years and this release has been available for a few months now. It's significantly better than the previous interface.

It's not surprising given the current situation. The big picture mode is designed for controllers and remains largely unchanged, with no major overhaul in years. Probably they're just aiming to modernize the platform, even though it takes time to adjust—it becomes much better once you get used to it.

Pfft. Doubtful. Every choice Valve makes for Steam tends to be against consumer interests, something anyone in the boardroom could easily imagine saying, like "can we take advantage of the nVidia experience/AMD Raptr" (Raptr came before the nVidia Experience).
